Nagaland’s champion wrestler Venuzo Dawhuo shines in wrestling bout in USA

Kohima: The reigning champion of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), Venuzo Dawhuo representing Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) won a special challenge bout against the reigning Chin champion at Bloomington, Indianapolis USA, attending the 12th Biennial Convention of Chin Youth Organization of North America (CYONA) held from June 30 till July 3.

According to a press release issued by Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) general secretary, Kuzhovesa Soho before leaving for USA informed that Venuzo Dawhuo will compete with the best Chin wrestlers during the convention which is part of festival for the Chin people in USA, accompanied by his manager and coach, Vekhozo.

Abu Metha, adviser to Nagaland chief minister Rio took to twitter, “Dawhuo has also been invited to participate in more competitions in America in the coming days. Best wishes always. You have the support and prayers of all of us back home. Make Nagaland Shine.”

It may be mentioned that Venuzo Dawhuo won the 28th Naga Wrestling Championship meet where he defeated Mhasilhusie Nagi (From Angami Sports Association (ASA) to emerge the champion. Venuzo pocketed a cash prize of Rs.3.20 lakh, championship belt along with Lt. Velahii Puro Memorial Trophy and cash award of Rs. 30,000 in February 2022.

The celebrated wrestler, Venuzo Dawhuo is from Thenyizu village of Phek district, standing 5’10 and weighing around 99 kg.
