Ngahanyui Zimik Ground Inaugurated at Phungcham

Ukhrul, Jan 28: After 66 years of its establishment, Paocham High School at Phungcham village finally have their own playground. Headman of Phungcham village, Tuireising Horam on Tuesday, inaugurated the playground.

Paocham High School at Phungcham was established in 1959 and was upgraded to full-fledged high school in 1982 and is considered as one of the oldest high schools in the northern part of Ukhrul District, Manipur.

The playground has been one of the essential infrastructural needs of the school. Sensing the basic needs, the school development and management committee and staff had approached Ngahanyui Zimik (IRS) to shoulder the construction of the playground. The SMDC and staff of Paocham High School on May 19, 2024, had also put up an agenda at Mashunrim Centre Court (Phungcham, Paorei and Varangalai) for naming of the ground as “Ngahanyui Zimik Ground”. The Mashunrim Centre Court readily accepted and endorsed the agenda. Accordingly, the construction of the work began under the financial assistance of Ngahanyui Zimik and family from 2024 and was finally inaugurated on Tuesday.

Headmaster In-charge of Paocham High School, Ningkhalem Horam expressed immense gratitude to Ngahanyui Zimik and family for taking up such great selfless steps for the students of Paocham High School in particular and the people of the three localities of Phungcham village in general.

Ngahanyui Zimik (IRS), Joint Commissioner (Finance), Government of India released the annual school journal “The Harbinger.” In his speech, Ngahanyui Zimik stated “We need to maintain our tradition and custom for being one of the oldest villages in the Tangkhul community. Phungcham, Hunphun and Hungpung are considered the three oldest villages in the Tangkhul community. Let us set an example so that the younger generation and others could emulate us. When the Paocham High School was established in 1959, there was only one graduate in Phungcham village and he is Late. Pr. Machung. Then, in 1970, there were 17 graduates alone at Phungcham Village and has produced two MLAs namely PR. Peter and Late Professor Dr. M. Horam. He appealed the Phungchamnao to revive the old flame and shine like the olden days and implored the gathering to struggle for a better tomorrow.”

The inauguration programme was attended by C. Yangya (MPS and Retired Headmaster), Ringthing Hongchui (MPS), Additional SP of Ukhrul, Pamthing Horam, Deputy Inspector ADC-Ukhrul, Wungnaongam Horam, Legal Headman of Phungcham and concerned citizen of Phungcham, Paorei and Varangalai.
