UKHRUL: Manipur Police have arrested nine people, including the parents and middlemen, for allegedly selling a six-year-old boy for ₹1 lakh in Imphal West district, officials said on Friday. The child, a resident of Khaidem Mayai Leikai, was rescued with the help of the Child Welfare Committee, the Social Welfare Department, and police.

Investigations revealed that the parents, aided by relatives and agents, sold the child to a person in Uripok. The case surfaced after the boy’s aunt and neighbours raised an alarm on social media over his disappearance in late December 2025. The parents had earlier misled locals by claiming the child was admitted to a boarding school in Kakching district.
