Northeast in hightest earthquake risk category

UKHRUL: The Bureau of India has recently placed the entire Northeast region in a new category, Zone VI —highest earthquake-risk category.

Nationwide a total of 66 earthquakes were recorded in October 2025, of which 25 tremors was from the Northeast alone, ranking highest among all regions.

Authorities from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and respective State Management Authorities (SDMAs) are tasked with revising disaster preparedness plans.
