AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reshaped its national executive structure recently by assigning critical roles to Northeast Indian leaders and establishing a dedicated regional coordination desk in New Delhi.
The official list names Tripura’s Biplab Kumar Deb as a National General Secretary, includes secretaries from Assam and Nagaland, and tasks Dr. Sambit Patra with overseeing Northeast coordination.
Reacting to the central command’s decision, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha took to official social media channels to applaud the appointment. “Heartiest congratulations to Shri Biplab Kumar Deb Ji on being appointed as the National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” Saha stated.
He further noted, “Your extensive administrative experience and grassroots leadership will significantly strengthen the party organization nationwide. Wishing you immense success in this new responsibility.”
According to the BJP central leadership, these structural changes come into effect forthwith. Deb, a former Tripura Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, joins an exclusive group of eight National General Secretaries tasked with widespread party management.

His colleagues in this core executive group include Vinod Tawde from Maharashtra, Sunil Bansal from Delhi, Smriti Irani and Harish Dwivedi from Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Satish Poonia from Rajasthan, Gajendra Patel from Madhya Pradesh, and Sanjay Bhatia from Haryana.
Moreover, the central leadership expanded its regional footprint by inducting Phangnon Konyak of Nagaland and Mriganka Deo Barman of Assam into the national secretariat as National Secretaries. It is learned that to streamline political initiatives specifically for the region, Dr. Sambit Patra has been designated as the Northeast Coordinator, supported by Shri Rajiv Babbar from Delhi as the Joint Coordinator.
Meanwhile, the broader organizational update retained B.L. Santhosh as the National General Secretary for Organization, assisted by Shivprakash and Saudan Singh as Joint General Secretaries.
The party also appointed thirteen National Vice Presidents, including prominent figures like Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Ram Madhav, while naming Piyush Goyal as the National Treasurer and Anil Baluni as the Media Convenor to complete the central executive overhaul.
