NPF sweeps Ukhrul and Kamjong

Ukhrul: Vote counting of 43-Phungyar, 44-Ukhrul, 45-Chingai assembly constituencies were conducted at Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul.

Vote counting started at 8:55 am in the morning and ended around 5:30 pm in the evening with 12 rounds in 43-Phungyar, 14 rounds in 44-Ukhrul and 10 rounds in 45-Chingai respectively.

144 CrPc was imposed at the radius of 1 km around the counting hall. Heavy security is seen at the surrounding and all over Ukhrul Bazaar.

Leishiyo keishing, 43-Phungyar, won the election for his second term again by 11579 votes out of 30591 where 33 opted none of the above (NOTA); Ram Muivah, 44-Ukhrul, won by 15376 votes out of 39683 with 47 NOTA; Khashim Vashum created a record in 45-Chingai constituency by winning two terms consecutively securing 12746 votes out of 40499 where 61 was marked NOTA.

In the certificate distribution ceremony, Leishiyo Keishing, Ramnganing Muivah and Khashim Vashum, all candidates of Naga People Front (NPF) were declared elected by the returning officer of 43-Phungyar (ST) AC, 44-Ukhrul (ST) AC, 45-Chingai (ST) AC Parliament/Assembly Constituency in Manipur state in the General Election/Bye-election to be a member of the house of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

As they proceeded to the gate, hundreds of people awaiting the elected candidates came to congratulate them. They were presented with traditional Tangkhul shawl, Kongsang (necklace) and flower garland as the crowd of NPF party supporters chanted, “Long Live NPF!”
