UKHRUL: The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) Eastern Flank Naga Army has issued a condolence message following the demise of their four cadres on Saturday at Hongbei village, Kasom Khullen Block, Kamjong District.
The condolence message, signed by Lieut. Gen. A Raman-MM, MC expressed deep sadness over the demise of their four cadres “in an ambush carried out by 2nd Lieutenant Mathotmi of Shihai Khunou Village on the 28th of March, 2026, at around 830 pm to 9,00 pm at Hongbei village Junction”.

“Four of our brave and beloved cadres: Major (Posthumous) Sochipem Phungshok- Army No. AX. 40200, Sergeant Major (Posthumous) Zairay Vasah – Army No. 4565322, Sergeant (Posthumous) Bahnle Ahlahpya- Army No. 45592/21, and Sergeant (Posthumous) Thansomi Washi – Army No 44982/19 were shot on the line of duty,” the message read.
Further, the NSCN Eastern Flank clarified that in accordance with the statement issued by the NSCN/GPRN, Ministry of Information (MIP) on 11 February, 2026, and the Tangkhul Naga Long (INL), Presidential Address, Note Serial No. 9, dated 23 February, 2026, and the Press Statement issued by the TNL, dated 25th February, 2026, their cadres were on duty.

“Our stand is to fight united with the Ghg/Hebron force and other Naga entities against the policy of our adversaries by using the Kukis as a proxy. At around 4:30 pm, our cadres went on duty to stop and check timber and other business activities at the present Indo-Myanmar border, via Hongbei Village, Kasom Khullen. On the way, our cadres met 2 Lieut. Starling of Lairam Village, along with two of them at Hongbei village junction, stayed with them for a while and talked about uniting our forces to fight against our adversaries, and also exchanged pleasantries. Afterwards, our cadres proceeded towards Kasom Khullen. Our cadres returned from Kasom Khullen, and they were stopped at Hongbei Village Junction at around 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm by 2nd Lt. Mathotmi of Shihai Khunou village, and 2nd Lieut Starling of Lairam village and their group,“ it stated.
The Naga Army further stated that in the conversation that followed, some of them said, “it’s us let them go,” but 2nd Lieut. Mathotmi commanded, “It’s them we are ordered to shoot.” “Thus, they fired indiscriminately at our cadres; four of our brave and beloved cadres were shot on the spot, and two of our cadres escaped from the firing,” it clarified while adding that such an order to shoot at their own cadres cannot be from a mere 2nd Lieutenant; the order must come from the highest level, Collective Leadership, or the Longvibu.

Mourning the demise of their four brave and beloved cadres, the Naga Army Eastern Flank stated that their sacrifice to save the nation will not be in vain. “We firmly believe that their sacrifice will bring inspiration to many and pave the way for a better future for our Nation that is on the verge of annihilation. The Naga nation will not forget their sacrifice for our beloved cause,” they added.
The organization pays its deepest homage to the four fallen comrades and their bereaved family members while praying that their souls find peace in the hands of the Almighty God.
