KOHIMA, October 7: Senior NSCN/GPRN leaders V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising have “retracted” their September 16 remarks against former Nagaland chief minister and governor Dr S.C. Jamir, following a 15-day deadline issued by the Ao Senden.
The retraction, signed by both leaders, was issued on October 6, the deadline set by the Ao Senden.
Lt. Gen. VS Atem, deputy ato kilonser, NSCN/GPRN, and Rh. Raising, special emissary to the collective leadership, NSCN/GPRN, said their comments were never intended to hurt the sentiments of the Ao Senden.
“If our comments on 16th September 2026 on Dr. S.C. Jamir have hurt the sentiment of the Ao Senden, it was never meant to do so and therefore, we do retract it forthright,” the declaration stated.

It may be noted that the controversy began after Dr S.C. Jamir spoke on the Naga political issue following his meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in New Delhi on September 10. His remarks drew a sharp response from NSCN/GPRN leaders during a September 16 consultation involving the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee and the NSCN/GPRN.
The Ao Senden subsequently condemned the remarks as disparaging and on September 23 gave Atem and Raising 15 days to retract their statements, warning that it would take its “own course of action” if they failed to do so. Ukhrul Times
