Old 324 rounds of ammunition unearthed in Thoubal, Manipur

Days after 122 unexploded World War-II bombs were unearthed in Moreh town, a cache of .303 calibre ammunition was recovered during an earth excavation for road widening along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 on Saturday.

A total of 324 rounds of .303 calibre ammunition believed to be from the World War-II period were recovered during excavation earth at Waithou Ching under Lilong police station of Thoubal district on Saturday morning, a police source said.

A team of Lilong police collected the ammunition for necessary investigation, the police source added.

It can be noted here that, on November 17, 122 unexploded bombs, believed to be from World War-II, were recovered in Manipur’s Moreh town at the Indo-Myanmar border.

The bombs were unearthed from Gante Veng of Moreh while levelling a plot of land for a construction of a house in the area.

It can also be recalled that, on July 15 this year, six unexploded bombs believed to be from the World War-II period were recovered from Imphal’s Hatta area, near the Indian Army War Cemetery and on July 17, 27 unexploded bombs, 43 empty cases of bombs and 15 empty boxes were discovered from Moreh area.
