Kohima, September 2: Nagaland Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, on the question of Free Movement Regime (FMR), has reiterated the Nagaland state cabinet’s decision in opposing Protected Area Permit (PAP) and FMR.
Dr Rio said this today on the the Seventh Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly which commenced today at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Kohima.
The Nagaland Chief Minister said that during a meeting with the Union Home Minister, he conveyed the decision taken by the Nagaland State Government and said that he (Rio) is hopeful that the Government of India will review the demands of the Nagaland Government.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, Y. Patton, while replying to a starred question this afternoon raised by NPF MLA Achumbemo Kikon on the issue of Protected Area Permit (PAP) and border fencing, said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had reimposed the Protected Area Permit in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland with effect from December 17, 2024 due to security concerns in the border areas of the states. He also informed the house that as of today, there is no report of an active fencing along the 215 km stretch of the India- Myanmar border in the State.
