UKHRUL: A public petition calling for an independent and transparent investigation into the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur has continued to gather support, with organizers reporting that the campaign had crossed 46,330 signatures as of June 19.
The petition, addressed to the wider public across Northeast India, the rest of the country, and international supporters, urges authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and scientifically rigorous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Organizers have set a target of reaching 60,000 signatures and eventually 100,000 signatures, stating that broad public participation would strengthen calls for accountability and transparency.
In an appeal issued alongside the campaign, the petition’s supporters described the incident as a grave humanitarian and criminal matter rather than a communal issue. They argued that the case raises serious questions concerning justice, human dignity, and accountability that warrant independent scrutiny.
The petition also references allegations made by women who were reportedly released after being held captive. According to the organizers, these allegations require thorough investigation and verification through appropriate scientific and legal processes.
Calling for justice for the victims and answers for their families, the petition urges authorities to ensure that any individuals found responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.
Supporters say the signature campaign serves as a demonstration of public concern and may help draw greater attention from policymakers, human rights advocates, civil society organisations, researchers, and media institutions.
The petition remains open for signatures and is being widely circulated on social media platforms as campaigners seek to expand public awareness of the case and their demand for an independent investigation.
