Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday sent out heartfelt wishes to the people of Tripura on the joyous occasion of Buisu, saying the festival of the Tripuri New Year stands as a glowing symbol of India’s cultural unity and deep-rooted traditions.

In a special message released on April 15, coinciding with Chaitra 25 of the Shaka Samvat 1947, the Prime Minister expressed happiness over the three-day-long celebrations of the traditional “Buisu Mela” being held across the state. He said the festival showcases the cultural pride of Tripura and is a testimony to the state’s vibrant heritage.

“Every element of this festival—be it nature worship, community feasting, folk music and dance, or the rituals passed down through generations—reflects the essence of our collective cultural identity,” Modi said.

He emphasized that such festivals not only preserve age-old customs for future generations but also strengthen the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. “These occasions are symbols of unity in diversity. They enhance mutual understanding and fraternity among different cultures,” he noted.

The Prime Minister also underlined the need to embrace the underlying message of harmony and progress that the festival brings. “I firmly believe that the power of collective unity will continue to lead our country to new heights of development,” he said.

Extending his warmest wishes, Modi hoped that the New Year would bring good health, happiness, and prosperity to the people of Tripura. “Once again, many congratulations and best wishes for the New Year,” he concluded.

The Buisu festival marks the beginning of the new year for the Tripuri community and is celebrated with traditional rituals, cultural programs, and community bonding, making it one of the most significant events in Tripura’s cultural calendar.
