PMGKAY JAC calls off proposed bandh of Oct 20: Ukhrul

The PMGKAY JAC of Upper Hungpung has called off its proposed indefinite bandh after its charter of demands were fulfilled by the authorities concerned.

In a communication with Ukhrul Times on Monday, JAC Convenor Elvis informed that the committee has resolved to call off the proposed indefinite bandh which was supposed to commence from October 20, Tuesday.

“The development came after the charter of demands raised by the committee have been fulfilled and that the discrepancies in distribution has been also addressed”, he said.

Earlier, the JAC had given 19 October as the deadline for the 44-Ukhrul MLA Alfred Khanngam Arthur and DC Joseph Pauline Kamson to fulfill its charter of demands.

Among the demands included compensation of the missing 114 bags, replacement of the poor quality dal, refund of transportation charge collected from Vashimtang residents and initiation of an administrative probe and punish those involved in the misappropriation of food grains under PMGKAY scheme.
