Imphal, June 16: Manipur Police have refuted rumours circulating on social media about an alleged firing incident in Phubala, Bishnupur district, involving armed Kuki militants. Police have warned the public against spreading unverified information.

The rumour surfaced on Monday morning, a day after fresh tension between Kuki and Meitei villagers over paddy fields in Leitanpokpi village, Imphal East district. Social media posts alleged that armed Kuki militants had opened fire at farmers working in the fields at Phubala.

However, Manipur Police issued a clarification through their official social media handle, stating, “There is no report of any firing incident by Kuki militants in Phubala, Bishnupur district. This has been confirmed by security forces deployed in the area. The public is requested not to believe in rumours or unverified information. Strict legal action will be taken against those found spreading false or misleading content with the intent to create panic or unrest.”

In a widely shared video clip, a local farmer working in the area also dismissed the rumours.
“I have been doing agricultural work continuously, and there has been no firing incident. We are working up to the high canal at the foothills. Many people called me, and I confirmed that no such incident occurred since morning,” he said.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and rely only on verified updates from official sources.
