Prohibitory Order Issued in Churachandpur Citing Potential Unrest Amongst Communities

Ukhrul, Mar 17: To maintain law and order, the Additional District Magistrate, Thangboi Gangte, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, with immediate effect, until further orders, in the Churachandpur district. This order strictly prohibits any unauthorized processions, unlawful assemblies of five or more persons, and carrying of arms or potential weapons, including sticks, rods, and stones.

The prohibitory order was issued citing ‘serious apprehension of a breach of law-and-order situation in the district which is very likely to be detrimental to the peace and public tranquility amongst different communities including damage to life and public property’.

It may be mentioned that the General Secretary of Hmar Inpui Richard Laltanpuia was allegedly assaulted by a group of men on Sunday night, around 7:30, within the premises of VK Montessori School, as per the Hmar Inpui. He was allegedly brutally attacked and has received medical treatment due to excessive bleeding and injury. The Hmar Inpui had issued an ultimatum demanding the perpetrators to surrender before 10 AM today, failing which it had warned of taking its course of action.
