Ukhrul: His Holiness Pope Francis on September 21 received newly appointed archbishops from around the world at the Vatican City in Rome.
Among them was His Excellency Linus Neli, Archbishop of Imphal, Manipur, who presented Pope Francis with a heartfelt token inscribed with “Pray For Manipur, India,” along with a Naga stall. The gesture symbolizes the deep concern for the ongoing situation in Manipur, with hopes for peace and unity.
According to Vatican news, the Pope received in audience of the newly-appointed bishops who completed the annual training course promoted by the Vatican in Rome — The course is organized by three Dicasteries: for Bishops, for Eastern Churches and for Evangelization.

“About 270 bishops were divided into two groups, according to the jurisdiction. The Dicastery for Bishops conducted the formation of 153 bishops from 46 countries, including 25 bishops of the Eastern rite (who have as a reference Dicastery that of the Eastern Churches) and 5 newly ordained bishops with offices in the Roman Curia. While 114 participants attended the Dicastery for Evangelization course,” said Vatican news.
It is worth noting that His Excellency Linus Neli, aged 67, was appointed as Archbishop of Imphal Diocese on October 7, 2023 by Pope Francis.
Born on April 26, 1957, in Imphal, His Excellency Linus Neli was ordained as a priest on December 20, 1984. He is known for his scholarly background, having obtained a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome. Before this significant appointment, he served as the Judicial Vicar of the Imphal Archdiocese and the Director of the Retreat Centre in Imphal.
