Ukhrul: The Raphei Katamnao Long Platinum Jubilee cum 57th General Conference, Sports, Cultural and Literary Meet 2024 concluded on Thursday at Kurei village. Chingjaroi CV was adjudged the overall champion. Ningam Chamroy (Retd.) IAS attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Timothy Zimik (Retd.) IRS and Duna Duo, SDO of Chingai and Jessami were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Ningam Chamroy stated that “Kuirei village has shown exceptional efficiency in hosting the Platinum Jubilee cum 57th General Conference, Sports, Cultural and Literary Meet 2024. Kuirei is a home to our respected leaders Late. RV. Mingthing, a visionary leader and former Minister of Manipur. Raphei is a god’s given land bestow with everything. All the founders and pioneers of RKL are no more. However, I appeal the children and grandchildren of the pioneers to give interest in reviving and rebuilding the RKL for a better tomorrow.”

Ningam Chamroy also added, “let us compete with the rest of the world in a faster pace, lest we are left far behind. No one can stop the change in this fast changing world. We only need to adjust or adapt it by facing it with preparedness. Mass exodus of our youth to metro cities is due to the lack of opportunity in our land. This is a serious issue and we should come together to secure and tackle this issue. Why is Raphei lacking in everything? Why there is no opportunity for our youth? For how many years, shall we endured the bad road and hollow infrastructures? Why is our elected representatives and government is not taking the initiative to create a better future? Time has come for us to ponder upon our dreams and well being. Is the policy feasible and being implemented properly.”
“Let us celebrate the past with pride, endure the present by freeing ourselves from all shackles and together let us navigate our future for a better Raphei” stated Ningam Chamroy.
Timothy Zimik, an intending MP candidate for the coming Lok Sabha election 2024 stated that “the budget allocation for the hill areas is very minimal, which is only Rs.17, 800 crores. What happened to the rest of the amount of money entitlement allocated to the hill areas by the central government? There is disparity in allotment of funds between the hills and valley.”
He also added that “halting of delimitation exercise by the majority community has hampered the progressive development of the hill districts in every fields. Our land is richly blessed with mineral resources of great value. However, the Government has leased out to multi national company for prospect mining and license.”

Duna Duo, SDO of Chingai and Jessami Block stated that “I am part of Raphei, my mom is from Chingjaroi. Raphei blood runs in my veins. I am very honoured to be in your midst in this great auspicious celebration. Raphei can be the best in every field and I hope Raphei will be in a higher level in the centenary celebration. My best wishes to everyone. “
President of RKL, Somipam Vashum stated that “the central direction of scrapping of Free Movement Regime (FMR) will affect the Tangkhul Naga brethren living in the Indo-Myanmar boundary. He called upon the gathering for a peaceful and united Raphei in the days and years to come.”
On the sports front, Halang Katamnao Long created a history by winning the men’s football and men’s volleyball, while Huishu Katamnao Long was placed runner up.
