Senapati, February 23: In a leaked video, Naga locals and students are seen challenging the Assam Rifles in the dark of night on February 22, 2025 for “terrorizing the Naga areas,” as uttered by a local in Senapati headquarters.

“Is it an arms deal, an ammunition deal, or another proxy war against the Nagas?” another person asked the paramilitary personnel escort, who can be heard responding, “I’m not aware.”

One of the Kuki militants caught red-handed is heard responding to the Naga locals when asked to reveal their identity, saying, “We are the SoO (Suspension of Operation) groups belonging to the United People’s Front. We were invited by the DG because he came from Delhi.”

Another Naga is heard saying,” Excuse me, Don’t play this dirty game. I’m warning you!”

Following the episode, the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has raised serious concerns over reports of the Assam Rifles escorting armed groups in their vehicles at unusual hours, questioning whether such actions pose a threat to peace and stability in the region.

Addressing the media during a press conference at the SDSA office, Saloni Tony, President of SDSA, stated that an alarming incident occurred in the early hours of February 22 in Senapati district. SDSA officials reportedly witnessed Assam Rifles personnel and militants operating in coordination, an act the student body strongly condemned.

SDSA criticised the unwarranted escort of militants, particularly at a time when Senapati remains relatively peaceful despite the ongoing turmoil in the state. The student body further questioned the intentions of the Assam Rifles, suggesting that such actions could foster mistrust and confusion among the peace-loving people of Senapati and neighboring communities.

Additionally, SDSA challenged the Assam Rifles’ Director General for allegedly engaging in dialogue with top Kuki militant leaders amid the district’s already fragile situation.

In response to the incident, the apex student body urged the paramilitary forces to maintain neutrality and refrain from siding with any armed groups. Instead, SDSA called for an expedited peace process to restore stability in the region at the earliest.

It is worth noting that United People’s Front (UPF) is one of the two umbrella organizations of Kuki militant groups alongside the Kuki National Organization (KNO).

Reliable sources told Ukhrul Times that the person in the leaked video is Aron Kipgen, the General Secretary of the Kuki National Front (P), who has been taking shelter in Chalva Kuki village, and IT Road area in Kangpokpi.
