Imphal: Security forces in Manipur’s Bishnupur district recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a counter insurgency operation today.
The recovered arms and ammunition were one each of M-16 Rifle (made in USA), SLR (Mark as 15300477), 7.62 Modified Rifle, Chinese hand grenade, 5.56 M-16 magazine, two 7.62 magazine, four rounds of 5.56 M-16 ammunition, eight rounds of 7.62 SLR ammunition and three rounds of 7.62 AK ammunition. One I-COM set (IC-V87) along with a set charger was also recovered, police said.
A joint team of police commandos attached with Bishnupur district police and troops of 36 Assam Rifles recovered the items during a search operation at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching and Napat areas under Kumbi police station this morning, the police further said.
The operation was launched based on input regarding the presence of suspected hideouts of underground cadres in the area. The arms and ammunition were found concealed at a place at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching village, the police added.
Today’s operation was a part of a series of search operations launched by the police and security forces across the state as a preventive measure taken up for upcoming Republic Day celebration and ensuing elections to the state Assembly, the police further added.
