Security Forces Conduct Combing Operation in Ukhrul District; Bunkers Destroyed

UKHRUL: In response to the killing of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan at Mongket Chepu in Ukhrul district, Manipur, a coordinated combing operation was carried out today by security forces, including the Manipur Police, BSF, CRPF, and the Indian Army, to apprehend the culprits. Also, several bunkers were destroyed in the operation.

The police stated that reports of an exchange of fire between suspected armed groups in the villages of Mongket Chepu and Shikibung were received at around 4:50 PM yesterday. During this incident, one BSF personnel from A-Coy, 179 Battalion, who was deployed for security duty at Mongket Chepu village, sustained a bullet wound. Upon receiving the information, two teams from Litan PS rushed to the scene, but the injured BSF personnel had already been evacuated to RIMS. It was later confirmed that the injured individual, No. 170801463 CT/GD Mithun Mandal of 170 BSF, succumbed to his injuries. Following this, an FIR was registered at Litan PS under sections 103/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act; the police have stated that an investigation is underway.

Furthermore, the police reported that during the coordinated combing operation conducted between 5:00 AM and 10:00 AM in the Mongket Chepu and Shikhibung areas today, security forces destroyed 21 bunkers and recovered 11 empty cartridge cases. They also conducted area domination, searching, and sanitization of the surroundings to capture the perpetrators and prevent any unlawful activities. Such operations will continue to deter illegal activities and apprehend those responsible.

Additionally, the police have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with the security forces during this ongoing operation.
