Senapati Barak Half Marathon Draws Hundreds of Participants

SENAPATI: Hundreds of runners participated in the Senapati Barak Half Marathon organised at the Astro Turf Ground, Senapati, under the theme “Run for Harmony.” The event was held as part of the Barak Festival 2025 in collaboration with the District Administration, Senapati Police, Indian Red Cross Society, and the Senapati Medical Department.

To promote inclusivity and encourage wider participation, T-shirts were distributed to all runners, and every participant who completed their respective distances received medals as a token of appreciation. The marathon featured three race categories — 5 km, 10 km, and 21.1 km — allowing individuals of all age groups and fitness levels to take part.

The event was formally flagged off by Senapati DC, Mamoni Doley, IAS, at the Astro Turf Ground. This year’s edition saw nearly one thousand runners joining the marathon.

In the 5 km race (men and women), cash prizes of ₹5,000, ₹4,000, and ₹3,000 were awarded to the first, second, and third place winners respectively. The route extended from Astro Turf, Senapati to Vakho and back.

In the 10 km race (men and women), the first, second, and third place winners received ₹10,000, ₹6,000, and ₹4,000 respectively. Participants covered the distance from Astro Turf, Senapati to Karong Bridge and back.

In the 21.1 km race (men and women), the winners were awarded ₹30,000 for first place, ₹20,000 for second, and ₹10,000 for third. The route stretched from Astro Turf, Senapati to Khongnem Thana and returned to the starting point.

The marathon not only promoted physical well-being but also strengthened community bonds, echoing the spirit of harmony central to the Barak Festival. The successful conduct of the event reflected the dedication of all participants and organisers.

In his vote of thanks, Saloni Tony, President of the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), expressed gratitude to the State Bank of India, Senapati Branch, for sponsoring the cash prizes for all winners. He also appreciated the service of the District Police for maintaining traffic along the highway during the marathon.

The SDSA President further acknowledged the Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati, and the District Medical Department for providing basic first-aid support and ensuring the overall health and safety of participants. He also thanked the District Administration and district-level civil society organisations for their cooperation in making the event a grand success.

The main event — Barak Festival 2025, a state-level celebration — will be held from December 12 to 14.
