Senapati District Launches Massive Clean-Up Drive to Revitalize Senapati River

Senapati, March 22, (DIO- IPR): Under the initiative of District Administration of Senapati, a joint cleanliness drive at Senapati river on Clean Senapati River Campaign is held today along the stretch of around 8 kilometers from Mt. Everest college parking to Kathikho Karong under the theme ‘Keep it clean, keep it flowing’.

In today’s joint cleanliness drive, the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS led the Clean Senapati River Campaign and was accompanied by Rang David Kung, MCS, ADM/ ADC, Senapati and Adahrii Maheo, MCS, ADC/ CEO, Senapati.

During the cleanliness drive, the Senapati river stretch from Mt. Everest college parking to Kathikho Karong of around 8 kilometers along the Senapati Hq area which has been densely populated area are covered. The river stretch is further divided into five (5) zones and headed by S. Lunguiba Thangal , MCS, SDO, Purul, Sheveine, MCS, SDO, Tadubi, Reikimdaar Khaling, MCS, SDO, Paomata & Willong, Panii James, MCS, SDO, Phaibung Chillivai and Ningreingam Leisan, MCS, ADM, Mao were entrusted to supervised their respective zones area. Each zone consists of Departments from government, CSO’s, Student Body and Schools & Colleges student were involved in collection and cleaning dump garbage’s in the river. Later, the river waters were treated with the bleaching powders as disinfectants.

In altogether, around 2000 people participated in today’s Clean Senapati River Campaign. Around 40 tones of garbage (mixed wastes) was collected during the cleanliness drive. The collected wastes were disposed at designated place by Karong Senapati Town Committee. The cleanliness drive will continue on 25th March (Tuesday) with the focus on black spots area.

As part of the campaign, Toilets, Pig Stys, and other structures disposing wastes directly in to the river has been identified during the physical survey led by ADM Senapati, CEO/ ADC Senapati, KSTC and SDSA earlier in the month of February, 2025. Black spots where large amount of garbage have accumulated in the river have also been identified along the stretch. Strict warnings against such rampant disposal of wastes in to the river was issued during the physical survey.

It may be mentioned that the Clean Senapati River Campaign is an initiative of the Senapati District Administration which aimed at restoring and preserving Senapati river which is the lifeline of the town. It is a step towards environmental preservation ensuring that the river pollution is controlled and it remain a resource for future generations. This campaign aims to raise awareness, engage communities, and foster collective action to combat pollution and promote river conservation. The campaign envisages a collaborative effort of District Administration, Autonomous District Council, Karong Senapati Town Committee, CSO’s, Village/Community leaders and volunteers for taking up river cleaning drives, spreading awareness through community engagement and use of social media.
