Chandel, March 22: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) has issued a fervent appeal to concerned authorities to expedite the investigation into the abduction and murder of (L) Serto Thangthang Kom, a sepoy with the Indian Army’s Defence Wing (PIB), and deliver justice to his grieving family.

(L) Serto Thangthang Kom, who was on leave at the time of the incident, was abducted by unidentified individuals on September 16, 2023, at approximately 10 AM in Tarung, Neikantong, Happy Valley, Imphal West. He was later found murdered, sending shockwaves through his community and the armed forces. His funeral service was held the following day at 11:30 AM with full military honours at his residence in Litan village, following an agreement between the Government of Manipur and the bereaved family.

The tragic incident was promptly reported to the Lamphel police on the same day by the victim’s brother, Phachung Kom, and a formal case was filed. However, nearly a year later, on August 19, 2024, the family expressed their frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation. They requested the police to treat the matter with urgency and seriousness that, “justice delayed is justice denied,” added CNPO.

In a press release, the CNPO stated the plight of the bereaved family and condemned the apparent denial of justice for (L) Serto Thangthang Kom. The organization called on the concerned authorities to take immediate and serious action to address the family’s plea. The CNPO stated that it views the matter with grave concern and will not remain a silent spectator. While respecting the judicial process, the organization demanded a swift response and appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.
