Senapati district team bags 20 medals in Manipur State Olympic Games, 2022

Senapati: Senapati district sports-persons bagged 20 medals consisting 6 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze in the recently concluded 2nd Manipur State Olympic Games 2022 who participated under the banner of Senapati District Olympic Association Manipur (SDOAM).

Altogether 191 players from Senapati district participated in the state Olympic who represented in 19 disciplines. Governor La Ganesan kicked off the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games-2022 on August 26 at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal and concluded on August 30.

SDOAM organized a grand reception programme for all the Senapati district contingents at Mini stadium Senapati on Tuesday evening.

SDOAM President, Joram Koveo Woba in his address during the reception programme congratulated all the medallists and the players. He regretted that the district sports association does not have proper sports infrastructure till date. However, in spite of poor sports infrastructure in the district, the President lauded the district players to have done well during the play. He declared that based on their performance from the Olympic Games, many players from the district have been selected who would participate at national level representing the state. He encouraged the players of the district to work harder and win more medals in the next state Olympic Games.

4.Wushu Men 48KG – Silver – Hrangaolou Vinah

 1.Shot Put Men – Bronze – Rakhoveio Liimai

    It may be mentioned that 2nd edition of the state Olympic Games was conducted after a gap of 34 years. The first state Olympic Games was held in 1988. The five-day Manipur Olympic Games-2022 was participated by around 6,000 sports persons representing all the 16 districts and competed in 34 disciplines, including indigenous sports.

    The sporting event will also serve as a selection process for the upcoming 36th National Games-2022 at Gujarat and North East Olympic Games-2022. 

    Addressing media persons, A. Karang Rangnamei, Games & Sports Secretary, SDOAM and President, District Sports Association (DSA) stated that all the players from the district were accorded a warm welcome on their return which was organised by the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM). The SDOAM Games & Sports Secretary also informed that the district contingent bagged 20 medals in various disciplines including what they never thought to bring such laurels to the district. While lauding the players to have brought the laurels to the district, A. Karang also hopes that more medals would be brought in the next Olympic games.
