Senapati: In an unusual event, unknown miscreants set ablaze a Mahindra Scorpio at a residential house located at Taphou Naga village, around one and half km away from Senapati Police Station.
Villagers mentioned that the incident took place between 1 and 2 am of October 7 Friday. They reportedly came to know of the incident when they heard the alarm sounded from the four wheeler. The villagers reportedly brought water in buckets and doused the fire. The Mahindra Scorpio was completely burnt beyond repair. Another Gypsy which was parked near the Scorpio was also partly burnt during the incident. Miscreants also reportedly poured petrol on the sofa and blankets kept outside the varendah of the house but reportedly ran away when the alarm of the vehicle went off. CCTV camera installed at the front gate of the residence did not capture the incident as the miscreants reportedly entered the compound from the backside of the house to execute the act.

The owner of the ill fated vehicle is Robert T. Maram, son of Kh. Talu (Village chief) of Taphou Naga village, who was an independent MLA candidate of 49-Tadubi AC during the last state election. Robert T. Maram was also the former Working President of the Naga People’s Front, Manipur State Unit (NPF-MSU) before he fought for the election.
Addressing media persons, Karaiba, Village secretary of Taphou Naga village condemned the unexpected incident that took place in the village on October 7 night. The village secretary stated that unknown miscreants who committed the heinous crime to disturb the peaceful atmosphere when the family members were sleeping in the dead of night as unfortunate. Briefing media persons, Karaiba while condemned the act, questioned the motive behind the incident and demanded the miscreants responsible for the act to claim responsibility at the earliest.

Senapati Police having witnessed the incident at the spot early this morning, the village secretary also appealed the law enforcing agency to find out the culprits and book them according to the law. Senapati Police collected items used during the attack by the miscreants for the attack. On behalf of the villagers, youth organization and women organization of Taphou Naga village, Karaiba condemned the act in the strongest term. An FIR is reportedly filed at Senapati Police Station.
