Imphal, May 31: Continuous rainfall over the past three days has triggered severe flooding across several parts of Manipur, with Imphal East district bearing the brunt of the flood crisis. A breach in the Imphal River at Khurai Heikrumakhong, Heingang Mayai Leikai and Ahallup, has led to widespread inundation, submerging homes and roads and bringing daily life to a standstill.
Floodwaters entered residential areas, blocking major roads and disrupting normal activities. A combined team comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 4th Assam Rifles, and members of Arambai Tenggol has been deployed for rescue and evacuation operations.
The overflowing Imphal River also flooded the Palace Compound, causing water to enter the premises of All India Radio (AIR) Imphal. As a result, after the AIR Imphal’s 7:30 AM Manipuri news bulletin on Saturday, remaining broadcast has been disrupted due to technical disruptions caused by waterlogging as of filing this report.
