Several houses inundated by flash flood in Imphal

Published on

Imphal: Several houses at Thongju in Imphal East district have been inundated by a flash flood even as Manipur somewhat experienced respite from torrential rains today. Residents blamed unsystematic drainages behind the flash flood while terming it as an artificial flood.

The flood-ravaged areas are in Khongman, Akampat and Mongkhang Lambi. Even as the rain stopped, the water level increased, locals alleged.

Mention may be made that even as banks of none of the rivers in Imphal East district breached or overflowed despite running above the flood level, several low lying areas in Imphal East district are experiencing flash floods due to the torrential rains in the last two weeks.

Due to water logging, many important government offices at the district headquarters including the DC office complex and JNIMS hospital, the biggest state-run healthcare institute are under water since the last few days.

Besides, several parts of Imphal West including areas in the heart of the state capital and its adjoining areas are also experiencing flash floods due to water logging.
