State Governor Visits Senapati; DC, Addl. SP, CSOs Highlight Dist Activities

Manipur is known for different cultural activities, he mentioned. As long as such culture is maintained alive, India will never die as the people would protect.; Getting required vaccination should be the habit of the people, he said asking people to cooperate which could save lives.

Senapati: Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, Additional SP, Senapati (Ops) and Civil Society Organisations of the district highlighted the activities of Senapati district to Governor of Manipur La Ganesan during his maiden visit to the district on Friday.   

Mahesh Chaudhari IAS, DC in his address informed that the district has a population of 4,79,148 with an area of 3,271 sq Km (both 2011 census prior to bifurcation of Kangpokpi district) having 7 sub-divisions, 136 villages with ethnic communities like Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal, Zeliang, Kuki and Nepali. He highlighted about the recent infrastructural developments of road projects in the district namely Maram-Peren road (NH-129A) which is under construction, Ukhrul -Tolloi -Tadubi road (NH-102A) construction to be started soon, Karong-Kedima road (NH-2) joint survey done under work agency by the NHIDCL and Mahadev-Tolloi-Pfutsero road joint survey to be conducted soon (agency by BRO).

On PHED, DC informed that under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) proposed for 11,492 households, New Development Bank (NDB) for 31,133 households and North East special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDs) for 6953 households. He highlighted that augmentation of Senapati headquarter water supply scheme under NESIDs would cover the population of 59,763 heads by 2038 A.D. (design year) with capacity of the project 3.29 MLD (work agency SPML INFRA limited). On education, he highlighted about Eklavya model residential school at Paomata, Purul and Tadubi and residential school at Taphou Naga, Bendramai and primary school at Chowainamei village. On tribal welfare, he informed about 4 tribal museums, women’s market, sadbhavna mandav, working women hostel and transit hostel for doctors and teachers.

DC also highlighted about the good works under MGNREGS in the district especially of Liyai khullen village on stone surfacing road, on ODF status, Covid-19 management, vaccination, potential areas for tourism and others.

Additional SP, Senapati (Operations) Prawin Ingawale, IPS highlighted the achievements of the police department during the last one year, adding narcotic drugs were seized which included 3.629 kgs (brown sugar/Heroin powder), 37,975 WY tablets, 15 kg (crystal meth Ice drug) and opium 5 kg. Highlighting more, he stated that 9 UGs were arrested, one 303 rifle with 4 live rounds were seized, 659 acres of poppy cultivation destroyed in the district and also handled the interstate border issue. The Addl. SP informed that it actively participated in Covid-19 awareness programme and implementation of Covid-19 screening point at Mao gate 24×7 (checking Covid test report, vaccination status), providing assistance to health department etc. He said altogether 67753 IPL were issued, 48 renewals and 606 exit and also actively participated during Dziikou wildfire.

Governor La Ganesan


Speaking on the occasion, La Ganesan, Governor of Manipur expressed happiness to see the cultural shows representing the major tribes of the district. Manipur is known for different cultural activities, he mentioned. As long as such culture is maintained alive, India will never die as the people would protect. The Governor is stated to be encouraged by the reports that had been presented. While the districts represent as soldiers, Senapati itself represents as true soldier as given in the name to protect the country and state as well. As the state governor, he stated his interest to see into the progress of each district. Having assured the responsibility, the Governor stated to tour each district and see the progress that has been taking up in each district.

The Governor in his address stated to stop smuggling once for all as it not only dangerous to the health of the individual but also the health of a country and nation is affected. Through the presence of the CSOs, the Governor appealed to all people of the land to be vigilant, to cooperate with the Police department/army personnel and share information about smuggling activities to stop such illegal smuggling in the land gradually.

The world appreciates the country’s achievement to have vaccinated 100 crore doses of Covid vaccines as stated by the nation’s Prime Minister. However, he is stated to feel sorry for the report of Manipur state where the vaccination rate is very low although the achievement of the country is good whereas, Manipur is at the bottom in vaccination rate among the northeast states although the state Govt is doing its best. While the vaccination rate for Senapati district stood at 18%, the Governor state that it is not a single responsibility of the DC alone, but should initiate by all who sought for cooperation by all society and public to target the vaccination rate at 80% instead of 18% to eliminate the virus by vaccination. Another virus, Dengue was also reportedly spreading in other parts of the state in the recent past. Getting required vaccination should be the habit of the people, he said asking people to cooperate which could save lives.

Senapati Governor visit

During CSO interaction NPO president Solomon Arow shared the concern of racial discrimination and Christian attack from the district face in other states for which he appealed the governor to contact with his counterparts. He also appreciated the governor for his visit to the district which happened after many years. Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) President, N. Hannah highlighted the shortage of manpower in district hospital and stressed on the need of earning provision for the womenfolk in the district.    

District officers from PHED, divisional forest department, district social welfare, lead bank, Chief medical officer, District Health Society, NHIDCL, Red Cross society, FCI and others highlighted their departmental achievements.  

Cultural items from 5 major tribes of the district including the Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong, Senapati Zone were showcased during the program.
