Amid the grim time of COVID-19 pandemic, suspected militants on Sunday planted hand grenades at two different places in Imphal. One of the Chinese made hand grenades was found at a gate of a construction company in Imphal West district while the other one at the house of a government officer in Imphal East district.

Police said that the hand grenade in Imphal West district was found early on Sunday morning by a caretaker of the company. It was safely removed after personnel of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad defused the same, the police said.

The other hand grenade was also found planted at the house of a government official in Imphal East district on Sunday morning, around 6.30 am, they said. The bomb was found lying at the veranda of the house of the government official.

Meanwhile, womenfolk of the locality staged a sit-in-protest denouncing the planting of bombs at the residential area. If any of the armed groups operating in the state behind the bomb threat should clarify the reason behind it, they demanded.

A leader of the local women’s organisation strongly condemned the incident saying that such a threat at a time while people were suffering immense hardship due to the spread of COVID-19 is not an act to be done.

She urged if any of the armed groups behind it not to create panicky to the people who are leading a life of fear and anxiety due to the spread of the pandemic in the state too.
