Tripura Police Nab Suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh Offshoot Member

Agartala, Dec 30: Tripura Police, in a joint operation with Assam Police and other security agencies, apprehended a suspected operative of “Imam Mahamude Kafila,” an ideological extension of the proscribed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, from Jaipur village in Agartala on Tuesday, December 30.

According to official sources, the arrested individual has been identified as Jagir Miah, aged 33 years and son of Hanif Miah, a resident of Jaipur village under West Agartala Police Station. The arrest was executed during morning hours on Tuesday.

It is learned that Miah was wanted in connection with STF Police Station Case Number 06/2025, which was registered on December 28, 2025. The case has been filed under sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 150, 152, and 113(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Moreover, stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 have also been invoked in the case, including sections 10, 13, 16, 38, 39, and 40, reflecting the serious nature of the alleged offences.

Meanwhile, investigation has revealed that Miah is an active member of the offshoot organisation “Imam Mahamude Kafila,” which operates as an ideological extension of JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh).

According to police sources, the arrested accused is being produced before the court on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
