Sword Vashum of INC hold flag hoisting event to kick off campaign at Talui village

Talui: Flag hoisting cum campaign kickoff ceremony of Sword Vashum, retired IAAS, Indian National Congress candidate for 45-Chingai (ST) assembly constituency was held on Wednesday at Talui playground.

The event was attended by INC leaders including 44-Ukhrul (ST) candidate, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur, party workers, supporters and well wishers.

It may be mentioned that scrutiny of candidates for 43-Phungyar (ST), 44-Ukhrul (ST) and 45-Chingai (ST) assembly constituencies of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts has been successfully conducted by the respective Returning Officers (ROs) at Mini Secretariat on February 14 (Monday).

Last date of withdrawal of candidature was fixed for February 16. No withdrawal, however, were received from the candidatures.

It may be mentioned that four candidates namely Sword Vashum of INC; Ningam Chamroy of NPP, Khashim Vashum of NPF and Preshow MK Shimray of BJP are in the fray for the forthcoming 12th State General Elections in the 45-Chingai (ST) assembly constituency seat.

In the 44-Ukhrul (ST) assembly constituency, BJP have put up Somatai Shaiza; Congress has fielded Alfred Kanngam S Arthur while NPF has fielded Ram Muivah.

While in the 43-Phungyar (ST) assembly constituency of Kamjong district, five candidates have filed their nomination papers. They are Awung Shimray Hopingson of BJP; Victor Keishing of INC, Wungnaoshang Kasar of JD(U), Leishiyo Keishing of NPF and Ninghor Jajo of Shiv Sena.

In the last 2017 state general election, NPF candidate, Leishiyo Keishing won the 43-Phungyar (ST) AC seat while Congress candidate Alfred Kanngam S Arthur was elected in the 44 – Ukhrul and NPF candidate, Khashim Vashum was voted to power in 45 – Chingai assembly constituencies of Ukhrul district.
