UKHRUL: Several Tangkhul civil and student bodies, along with 52-Tamei Assembly Constituency MLA Awangbow Newmai, have condemned the reported killing of four Tangkhul Naga civilians at Pilong in Kamjong district on Thursday, with calls for an impartial probe and stronger measures to protect civilians along the Indo-Myanmar border.
In a statement, the Raizan Katamnao Long, a student body, condemned the killings and said the incident could not be viewed in isolation. It referred to the May 7, 2026 attacks on the Tangkhul border villages of Choro, Namlee and Wanglee, allegedly carried out by Kuki militants operating from Myanmar.

“The recurrence of such attacks demonstrates the grave insecurity faced by the Nagas living along the Indo-Myanmar border,” the union stated.
The student body also questioned the effectiveness of security arrangements along the international border, saying the alleged movement of armed militants across the border and attacks on civilians raised serious questions about intelligence and security preparedness.
It further called for an impartial investigation into what it described as possible security lapses, while raising questions over alleged strategic coordination or collusion involving the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and elements of the Indian security establishment.
The union urged the Government of India to ensure accountability, prevent the use of civilians in what it described as “proxy warfare” and strengthen protection for people living in vulnerable border areas.
Meanwhile, the Working Committee, LABS, Kasom Khullen Sub-Division, strongly condemned the reported attack and accused cadres of the KNA-B of responsibility.

“This brutal aggression against unarmed villagers is a grave violation of basic human rights, an assault on peace, and an unpardonable atrocity,” the committee stated.
It said the alleged targeting of civilians in their own villages was unacceptable and called upon the authorities, government agencies and law-enforcement bodies to take immediate and stringent action and ensure justice for the victims.
MLA Awangbow Newmai also expressed outrage over the recent violence and loss of lives in Manipur.
In a statement, Newmai condemned what he described as continuing attacks on civilians and the burning of houses, government schools and a church at Pipuram, Chamriupiu and Thebram in Kangpokpi district on September 23 and 24.
He also referred to the reported killing of Paojangam Chongloi of Wakotphai at Lasan in Tamei Sub-Division on September 23, as well as the Pilong killings, which he attributed to the KNA-B.
Newmai appealed to all communities to shun violence, coexist peacefully as neighbours and work collectively towards restoring peace, mutual trust and communal harmony.
“I stand in solidarity with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” he said, while praying for the departed souls to rest in peace.
