Kamjong: A team of Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal visited the border village Namlee Village in Kasom Khullen sub division, Kamjong district, where refugees from neighbouring country Myanmar are currently taking refuge. The visit led by general secretary, Sokatung SP saw around 1200 inmates from various villages from across the border. It can be added that there are also refugees in neighboring Wanglee village.

While speaking to the media, the inmates spoke of the massive challenges even for the basic amenities needed to sustain life. The visited site pictures the dearth of the absence of proper camps causing the inmates to bear the unbearable shift inweather and climate.

Speaking to the media, Sokatung also reflected on the economical and social condition of the area. That Namlee village which is within the Indian border, still does not have electricity. That it suffers from the lack of basic communication connectivity exhibiting the absence of technological and intercommunicable reliance like mobile/phone networks.

The team (TKLI) shares the plight of the helpless refugees taking shelter in the area. The need to accommodate people in dire need on humanitarian grounds, and under the spirit of universal brotherhood was deeply reflected during the visit by the team. Sokatung opined that, “Refuge given to refugees should have a time frame, say six months, after which a review to whether extend their stay or restrict it should be taken.”
