Pune, Sept 18: The Tangkhul Shimkhur Pune, an association of Tangkhul community members residing in Pune, successfully hosted the “Dharthei Kazip cum Sports Meet” under the theme “Ngayovairanu” at Bishop Co-ed School, Kalyani Nagar, on September 16-17.
The event was graced by esteemed guests Dr. A. S. Varekan, Registrar of Spicer Adventist University, Ningreipam Ruivah, Tax Assistant, Income Tax Department, and Merwyn Rodricks, Headmaster, The Bishop’s Co-ed School Kalyani Nagar.

In his address, Dr. Varekan emphasized the importance of preserving Tangkhul identity and recognizing the purpose of their stay in Pune. Ningreipam Ruivah stressed the significance of saving money, particularly for those who migrate to Pune for better job opportunities. Merwyn Rodricks expressed his pleasure in hosting the community on the school campus.
The sporting event saw enthusiastic participation from the community members, mostly working professionals, divided into four teams: Hutchi, Hangkhok Khalang, Khaitak, and Yongyinqui. After an intense competition, Yongyinqui emerged as the overall champion. There are approximately 400 tangkhuls living in Pune.
