In view of the worsening rapid surge in COVID-19 positive cases and death rate, the Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on COVID-19 (TCFC) had re-extended the lockdown till May 28.

The decision to further extend the public lockdown in Ukhrul district was taken in its sitting held on Friday.

The Forum urged the villages of the district going through difficult times for wants of essential commodities to approach their respective concerned village authorities for their needs while directing the village authorities to procure the goods for the entire populace of their village.

For the populace of district headquarters, it urged the respective locality/tang to arrange the essential items. While for those who wished to take up home delivery services, it informed interested businesses or individuals to take prior permission from TCFC.

It then appealed the general public to further extend their fullest support and cooperation to the Forum in order that the populace protect and prevent itself from the deadly menace of the COVID-19 health crisis.

In view of the prolonged public curfew imposed in the district amid the alarming escalation of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths in the state as well as in the district, the district magistrate and TCFC in their bid to prevent the impending threats of the infections tightened the movements of people in addition to closing down of shops in the district, these had made many households panic buy essential commodities. The long spell of curfew has hit hard on the lives of the district especially the daily wage earner.

These is the third lockdown announcement the Forum had made from their end.
