UKHRUL/IMPHAL: High tensions triggered in Manipur’s premier healthcare facility in Imphal on Monday when a large crowd attempted to enter the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital.
Protestors representing various communities gathered at RIMS, voicing strong opposition to the admission of three Kuki individuals. The three were reportedly injured from an alleged gun firing incident that occurred earlier this morning at Leilon Munlui which is located between Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul on Monday morning.

After receiving initial treatment, the three injured persons, identified as Genlenmang Vaiphei (18) of Mission Veng, Leimakhong, Paogoulal Chongloi (18) of P Moulding village and Lunliandan Vaiphei (20), were transported to Imphal by the central security forces for further treatment. However, their transfer to Imphal heightened tension in the already volatile situation since the recent brutal killings of six Naga men by suspected Kuki militants.
The gathering of protestors intensified tensions at the hospital, complicating efforts to provide medical care and maintain order. In response to the mounting tension, security forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Assam Rifles, deployed at the scene resorted to using tear gas and lathi charges to control the crowd. However, no injuries have been reported from the protest.
The confrontation and the protest scene at the hospital premises created panic and fear for other patients.
Tensions among the protestors and authorities have yet to subside at RIMS as of the time of this report. Heavy security forces continue to present around the hospital to monitor the situation.
