UKHRUL: The Konsakhul Village Authority has unequivocally condemned the attack carried out against the residents of Leilon Vaiphei today at around 6:00 AM by ‘unidentified miscreants’. On the other hand, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has accused the ‘National Socialist Council of Nagalim(NSCN-IM) and its proxy outfit Zeliangrong United Front-Kamson (ZUF-K)’. The Joint Tribe Council Manipur (JTCM) has, however, strongly refuted the KIM and the Vaiphei People’s Council’s allegations.

In a press statement, the Konsakhul villagers stated that no civilian should ever be subjected to violence, fear, or insecurity, and that they fully empathize with the suffering and distress experienced by innocent families affected by this incident.

However, it stated that it is both disingenuous and unacceptable for certain individuals to selectively portray themselves as victims while conveniently ignoring the grave atrocities inflicted upon the people of Konsakhul. “Our community has endured relentless and unprovoked aggression for an extended period, perpetrated by Kuki militant groups in collusion with Leilon Vaiphei villagers. On 13 May 2026, our 18 innocent villagers were abducted, and on 31 May 2026, civilians were ambushed, resulting in injuries to one of our villagers. Most horrifically, six of our innocent brothers were brutally murdered in cold blood. Their bodies were mutilated, dismembered, chopped into pieces, and subjected to barbaric treatment in acts that shocked the conscience of humanity,” the villagers recounted.

Further, firmly condemning all forms of violence against civilians, irrespective of community, ethnicity, or faith, the villagers asserted that the loss of innocent lives can never be justified and that selective outrage serves only to deepen mistrust and prolong the cycle of conflict. The press note also categorically rejected what it terms as baseless allegations levelled against the security forces, particularly the CRPF personnel who continue to discharge their duties under extremely challenging circumstances to protect civilians across the region, by Leilon Vaiphei. “Such accusations are devoid of credible evidence and appear to be a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from the real issues at hand. Recklessly vilifying security personnel who risk their lives to maintain peace and order is both irresponsible and condemnable,” it remarked.

The village authority also highlighted that the villagers have suffered immense pain, loss, and displacement, yet have consistently upheld the principles of restraint, peace, and lawful conduct. “We remain committed to the ideals of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and communal harmony. Lasting peace can only be achieved through truth, justice, accountability, and sincere dialogue- not through misinformation, selective narratives, or the distortion of facts,” it reiterated.

The village authority then calls upon all concerned to reject violence in all its forms, uphold the rule of law, and work collectively towards restoring peace, security, and lasting reconciliation in the region.

Condemning the attack, the KIM alleged that Leilon Vaiphei was bombed by the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF-K, endangering innocent lives, damaging properties, and shattering the peace and security of the people.

“Such attacks against civilian areas are unacceptable, inhuman, and a direct threat to the rule of law. The people of Leilon Vaiphei and the surrounding areas cannot be expected to live under fear while armed groups continue to operate with apparent freedom and impunity,” it stated. It also asked the government how long it will continue to give leeway to those responsible for creating terror, insecurity, and destruction. Silence, delay, or inaction will only embolden the perpetrators and deepen public anger and mistrust, it said.

The Kuki body then demanded immediate and decisive action from the Government and security forces to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the attack, while also treating the safety of civilians as the highest priority, and putting adequate security measures to prevent further violence.

However, the Joint Tribe Council-Manipur (JTCM), a conglomeration of Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Inpui, has strongly refuted the allegation made by the Kuki Inpi Manipur and the Vaiphei People’s Council. In the rebuttal, the JTCM warns the KIM and Vaiphei People’s Council to stop pointing fingers at others. “The real perpetrators are within your own ranks, Kuki narco-terrorists who have turned Manipur’s hills into a hub of illegal drugs smuggling, extortion, kidnapping, and violence. KIM & Vaiphel Peoples’ Council has played a dirty game for years, blaming those who sheltered them and helped them, just as they have been playing with the Meitel community since 2023. Now, they are applying the same tactic against the Nagas,” it stated.

The JTCM also accused the organizations of being a mouthpiece of KNF (P) and its proxies, operating in close coordination with these terrorist groups to mislead the public and shield the guilty. It also stated that the Leilon Vaiphel Kuki refugee village area falls under the effective control and jurisdiction of KNF (P) and its proxy KNF (Nehlun), both known narco terrorist outfits. “Naga civilians in and around this region have been under continuous threat, harassment, extortion, and kidnapping by these Kuki armed groups,” it stated, while also highlighting the incident of May 13, where 20 innocent civilians were abducted and out of which 6 hostages including pastors were subsequently killed.

Further, it alleged that the Indian security forces could not pass through this Leilon Kuki refugee village to evacuate the injured and help the Naga civilians in any emergency. “Innocent Naga civilians from the affected encroachment areas by the refugees have already been displaced and are now living in multiple relief camps. No Naga individual or organization would ever carry out such an act of terror against anyone. The very suggestion is absurd and malicious,” the rebuttal continued. It then demanded the Manipur Government and security forces investigate the real perpetrators.
