(The spiritual and political journey of the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN to Somdal, Ukhrul district)

The warm and affectionate welcome accorded to the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN during the journey to his birth place, Somdal from Ukhrul and Tahamzam (Senapati district), on October 22, 2025 and October 29, 2025 respectively by the Naga people and the non-Naga communities is indeed significant and praiseworthy. The collective hard work and commitment of the homecoming organizing committees and the shared responsibility and the equal participation of the Nagas and non-Nagas had made his homecoming meaningful and significant because his commitment for sovereignty and freedom transcends Nagalim and speaks for all subjugated nation, tribe, people and language. As a political visionary and statesman who is committed for a negotiated political settlement between the two sovereigns he was responsible for patiently negotiating with the GoI for the past 28 years and successful in signing the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, between the Government of India (GoI) and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN).This press statement underlines the spiritual and political significance of his journey to his birthplace, Somdal.

The spiritual journey of the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN is a momentous event as we understand that Somdal his birthplace and the surrounding forest and villages was the cradle of his spiritual and political enlightenment. Gethsemane-Somdal, Shengteikui-Theiva and Karur-Hoomi, in Ukhrul district symbolized his wilderness of Ziph or En Gedi and a period of solitude and discipline. Importantly, it was period marked by crisis in the Nagalim national politics and his long march from Nagalim to China and back. In addition, significantly, it was during this  period that Yahweh El Shaddai spoke to him through the inspiration of the holy spirit that , ‘You shall be called Galilee Church. I will make you seed corn. I will not forsake you but you have to obey Me. Do not forget Me‘. It was a conditional covenant for him and  his followers, whereby, they must live a life of faithfulness and obedience and Yahweh El Shaddai takes full responsibility in fulfilling the covenant promises. The banner of “Nagalim for Christ” adopted at Lakhuti, Lotha region on April 27, 1955 by the Naga National Council (NNC) has been the standard of the NSCN under the leadership of late Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, late Vice-Chairman Khadao Yanthan and General Secretary, Th. Muivah and in spite of human frailty Yahweh El Shaddai has been faithful to Nagalim and has been Nagalim’s defence and mighty fortress. From March 11 to 12 in 1973 he slipped in quietly to witness the dedication of the Somdal Baptist Church and for him the current journey to Somdal was a renewal of commitment to Yahweh El Shaddai and to thank his people for their unceasing prayers that has sustained him and the Naga nation. It was also a time of honoring the two prominent and outstanding leaders from his village, first, the pioneer in christian faith, Rev. Ruichumhao Rungsung (1896-1933) who revolutionized Christianity in the region and second, Rungsung Suisa, the half brother of Rev. Ruichumhao Rungsung (1907-1971) a brilliant student and visionary politician who had convinced India’s leadership on a “sovereign relationship” between India and Nagalim. He emphasized that Yahweh El Shaddai the creator of heaven and earth has a purpose for Nagalim, which India and Burma (Myanmar) have failed to understand and emphasized that India and Burma (Myanmar) are not the master of Nagalim destiny.

We are persuaded that every nation. tribe, people and language who have welcomed and facilitated his home coming shall be blessed for generations to come. The nonagenarian leader still stands firmly for the Nagalim national principles on Nagalim national flag and Nagalim national constitution that represents Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty. We are convinced that showers of blessings shall accrue to everyone who subscribes to his commitment on Nagalim unique history and Nagalim sovereignty.

Underscoring the political dimension of his homecoming, the righteous cause of Nagalim was in his heart from a very young age which was nurtured by his parents, Mr. Shangkathan Muivah and Mrs. Rumangla Muivah and the history of alien domination and servitude of his people persuaded  him to join the Nagalim national movement under the banner of Naga National Council(NNC). A political visionary and a true patriot, he invested his life systematically for the cause and vision he had committed for Nagalim. Consequently, after the formation of the NSCN he has laid the unshakable political foundation which will sustain Nagalim and the Naga people to the end.

His message to Nagalim and the Naga people at Ukhrul-Somdal on October 22, 2025, quoted verbatim below highlights the milestone steps taken in the Indo-Naga political peace process between the GoI and the NSCN :

“I therefore take this opportunity to underline in a nutshell the importance of the following unique milestones which have been achieved  during the leadership of late Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, late Vice Chairman Khadao Yanthan and myself as the Chief Political Negotiator, NSCN/GPRN:

Firstly, the Indo-Naga Political peace process that began as two sovereigns from August 1, 1997.

Secondly, the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 that recognized Nagalim unique history and situation admitting that Nagalim was/is not the internal matter of India and Burma (Myanmar).

Thirdly, the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 that recognized and acknowledged Nagalim unique history and sovereignty.

It is purely because of his statesmanship  that such landmarks steps have been taken in the ongoing Indo-Naga political peace process and they are the turning points in Indo-Naga political conflict because across the negotiating table the sovereigns have eliminated the extraneous factors and facilitated the signing of, among others,  the two official Agreements on the realistic foundation of the recognition of Nagalim unique history and situation/position and sovereignty. However, the serious challenge to the Indo-Naga political peace process has been on account of the position maintained by the GoI  and its decision makers who are interpreting the Agreements from the perspective of the Indian constitution. Such standpoint will have no meeting point, whether it is today or tomorrow.

Hence, his  itinerary is an appropriate  time to inform the Naga people, wherever they are, the people of India, every nation. tribe, people and language about the truth in the ongoing Indo-Naga political peace process between the GoI and the NSCN. Setting clear boundaries between politics and emotion with regard to the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN historic homecoming, the journey is politically correct and timely for the following reasons :

First, all and sundry across Nagalim, India and the international communities have been informed about the letter and spirit of the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015. The “letter” of the Framework Agreement makes it sufficiently clear that “sovereignty lies with the people”and“sharing of sovereign power” between two sovereigns and the “spirit” delineates that since sovereignty is constitutive of identity, therefore, the national flag and national constitution of the sovereigns are integral in the  letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015

Second, the whole world have been informed with clarity regarding the betrayal of the letter and spirit of the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 by the GoI who has lost the political will and therefore refused to recognize the Nagalim national flag and Nagalim national constitution according to the letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.

Third, people everywhere have been informed in an understandable term that if the Indo-Naga political peace process concludes honorably and is acceptable to both the sovereigns, the peace dividend from the ongoing political negotiation between India and Nagalim represented by the GoI and the NSCN shall be, the recognition and acknowledgement of sovereignty and a new relationship peaceful co-existence of the sovereigns outside the constitution of India and Burma (Myanmar).

Fourth, the decades old Indo-Naga political conflict ending in an honourable and acceptable negotiated political settlement shall have positive ramification not only for Nagalim and India but will have advantageous outcome for all peoples and communities who are struggling for their right of self-determination.

Fifth, Nagalim, the international community and the GoI have been informed that the Nagalim unique history, Nagalim sovereignty, Nagalim national flag and Nagalim national constitution are non-negotiable.

Sixth,  the message that he carries during his itinerary is pivotal and crucial as it will decide the future of India and Nagalim, either for a new relationship of peaceful-coexistence between the two sovereigns, if the Indo-Naga political peace process concludes in a negotiated political settlement that is honorable and acceptable to both the sovereigns or for resumption of violent military conflict on account of betrayal by the GoI.

Seventh, he has spelled out his position explicitly that Nagalim and the NSCN will not surrender its unique history and sovereignty to India and Burma(Myanmar) and they are prepared to face any eventuality, including military conflict and shall stand to the last, come what may.

Twenty eight years of patient political negotiation and the official signing of the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 proves the seriousness and sincerity of the NSCN and its leadership to resolve the decades old Indo-Naga political conflict. Hence, if the GoI and its leadership are sincere enough to conclude a negotiated political agreement with the NSCN, they  must be prudent enough in how they respond to the letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 by duly recognizing and acknowledging the Nagalim national flag and the  Nagalim national constitution.

His homecoming is also consequential in the context of him acknowledging and recognizing the supreme sacrifice of the Naga people across Nagalim and the national leaders beginning with Haipou Jadonang, AZ. Phizo and others, the martyrs and victims of human rights violation and also the appreciation and recognition accorded to the Nagas of today for their wisdom in supporting the letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015. Significantly, on October 29, 2025 at Tahamzam (Senapati) the Naga people under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), which represents all the Naga tribes in the present state of Manipur, issued a declaration supporting his leadership to represent the rights of the Nagas in the Indo-Naga political talks and for an honorable and acceptable political solution based on the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015. It was also a time of thanksgiving to the Naga people cutting across artificial state and international boundaries, nation, tribe, people and language who have supported Nagalim’s right of self-determination to exist as a sovereign.

Those who support and are seriously committed for an honorable and acceptable negotiated political settlement between India and Nagalim must pay serious attention to the message of the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN who has explicitly and categorically declared his political position to the GoI at Ukhrul and Tahamzam (Senapati) on October 22, 2025 and October 29, 2025 respectively :

First, the only acceptable and honorable negotiated political agreement shall be according to the letter and spirit of the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 and the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 and the officially recognized Nagalim unique history, Nagalim sovereignty, sovereign Nagalim territory and the  sovereign  Nagalim national flag and the sovereign Nagalim national constitution.

Second, the sovereign Nagalim unique history, Nagalim sovereignty, sovereign Nagalim territory, sovereign Nagalim national flag and sovereign Nagalim national constitution are non-negotiable, whether it is today or tomorrow and whether in heaven or on earth.

The above solemn and conclusive political message to the leadership of India by the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN is important and noteworthy with political ramification.

Nagalim and the Naga people are sincerely thankful and deeply indebted to the Chief Political Negotiator, Th. Muivah, General Secretary-Ato Kilonser (Prime Minister), NSCN/GPRN, for laying down the following unshakable  political foundation for Nagalim and the Naga people :

  1. Founding of the NSCN on January 31, 1980 and carrying forward the Nagalim national movement.
  2. The Indo-Naga political peace process between the GoI and the NSCN from August 1, 1997 at the Prime Minister level, without pre-conditions and outside India in a third and neutral country signifying that the Indo-Naga political peace process is not the internal matter of India and Burma(Myanmar), but between two sovereigns.
  3. The Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of July 11, 2002 that officially recognized Nagalim unique history and situation, proves that Nagalim was/is never a part of India and Burma(Myanmar) either by consent or by conquest, hence, the Indo-Naga conflict is not the internal matter of India and Burma(Myanmar) but a political conflict between two sovereigns needing political solution. The GoI also recognized that the violent repressive and oppressive human rights situation in Nagalim is a result of India’s and Burma(Myanmar) militarism and militarization.
  4. The Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 officially recognized Nagalim “unique history and position”, “sovereignty lies with the people” “sharing of sovereign powers” and “new relationship of peaceful co-existence of the two entities”. Hence, first, Nagalim “unique history and position” proves Nagalim is never a part of India and Burma(Myanmar) either by consent or by conquest. Second, since sovereignty is constitutive of identity, the national flag and national constitution of the sovereigns are recognized and acknowledged in the  letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015. Third, the mutually agreed sovereign powers shall constitute the constitution which shall be called Yehzabo / Constitution in Nagalim language. Fourth, according to the letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 the new relationship of peaceful co-existence is of two sovereigns and outside the  constitutions of India and Burma(Myanmar).
