UKHRUL: Thawai village has officially opposed the entry of security forces into its area for operations, citing unjust treatment and a failure to address the presence of “illegal Kuki immigrants” engaged in unlawful activities.
In a declaration issued on Friday, the village authority stated that this decision was made based on a resolution adopted during the village’s Emergency Assembly held on April 2, 2026. The declaration emphasizes that the village community has consistently maintained peace since unrest began between different communities.

“In accordance with the provisions of The Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas) Act, 1956, we assert our legitimate right to protect and safeguard our land and people. We have observed that security forces have acted unjustly towards our community and have neglected to address the presence of illegal Kuki immigrants in our area, who are reportedly armed and involved in unlawful activities,” the declaration reads.
Furthermore, the village authority highlighted that, despite multiple complaints submitted to the relevant authorities since 2023, no effective action has been taken, and the issue remains ignored. Given this ongoing inaction, the village feels compelled to take necessary measures to defend itself against any threats.

As a result, the village authority declares that no external forces will be permitted to enter the village jurisdiction until the situation is suitably resolved. “Any actions taken in violation of this resolution, especially the use of force which may lead to untoward incidents, will make the Government and its agencies solely responsible for the consequences,” it warns.
