Three alleged drug peddlers held in Manipur

Imphal: A team of Manipur police commandos arrested a person after a huge quantity of contraband cough syrups was recovered during a raid at his house in Thoubal district on Friday.

The arrested person was identified as Baharulislam, according to police.

A total of 8813 bottles of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup which was concealed by sand at the back of a truck parked in his house was recovered by the commando personnel during the raid, the police said.

Meanwhile, a team of Imphal East district police have apprehended two alleged drug peddlers during an operation as a part of government’s War on Drug 2.0.

The arrested persons were identified as Sabir Ahamed of Imphal East district and Shahnawaz of Thoubal district, according to police.

From their possession, the police have recovered one soap case containing heroin powder, 83 plastic vials containing heroin powder, 30 pieces of N10 tablet and 38 pieces of SP capsules.

Both the arrested persons along with the seized items have handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal action, the police added.
