Ukhrul: The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal, in a statement expressed shock to learn that there has been no appointment for a regular Vice Chancellor of Manipur Technical University since the cancellation of the appointment of the previous Vice Chancellor of the university by an order of the Manipur High Court on January 27, 2023.

“Whereas the current Vice Chancellor Manipur Technical University is also serving as the Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University and also Commissioner of University & Higher Education Manipur; the current Registrar of the University is also serving as the Director of MOBC; and the Assistant Registrar-in-charge is also the Finance Officer of this University on deputation, there has been a void in the administrative set up which has made the smooth functioning of the university practically impossible. This is proven by the fact that even after eight years from its establishment in 2016, opportunity for courses in higher studies such as M.Tech, PhD, etc. is not available to students in the university,” the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal said.

The Union said that it is dismayed by this culture of rampant interim appointments of bureaucrats in educational institutions. “This has brought about countless complications within the institutions, which has negatively impacted the students on a large scale. The future of our society lies in the future of our youths and students. This culture of putting the future of our students at risk for temporary convenience of the Government is nothing short of careless short sightedness from the side of the Government,” TKLI further reiterated.

Taking everything into account, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal demanded the immediate appointment of new Vice Chancellor or reinstatement of previously appointed Vice Chancellor of the Manipur Technical University for the welfare of the students and the future of the university. Failing which, the Union said that it will be forced to take up measures to ensure that justice is delivered.
