In his keynote address, DNO Dr. L. Deben Singh outlined the campaign’s core objectives: to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, ensure tobacco‑free compliance in educational institutions, promote tobacco‑free villages, strengthen enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and the Protection of Children from Tobacco (PECA) 2019, amplify social‑media engagement, and build the capacity of frontline health workers.

As part of the rollout, public awareness programmes were conducted in schools, colleges and villages, culminating in pledge‑taking ceremonies. An interactive session held today at Chalong and Cheengkhu villages saw health officials delivering messages on the dangers of tobacco to youths and villagers. Dr. Singh affirmed that similar activities will continue across the district and appealed to the public to support the campaign and help make Chandel a healthier, tobacco‑free district.
