UKHRUL: The Travelling Book Fair organised by Book Culture | Northeast, in collaboration with ishi, was formally inaugurated today at Sentinel College, Phungreitang, Ukhrul, Manipur. The week-long fair, which began on Thursday, will continue till December 23, 2025, and is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm with free entry for the public.

The book fair showcases a diverse collection of books covering a wide range of genres including fiction, non-fiction, academic publications, children’s literature, self-development titles, and popular bestsellers. Readers of all age groups, particularly students and young readers, are expected to benefit from the availability of affordable books.

One of the main attractions of the fair is the special pricing scheme under which books are being sold at ₹399 per kilo, allowing visitors to purchase multiple books at a highly economical rate. In addition, the fair is offering a “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” scheme on selected titles, further encouraging book purchases among book lovers.

The organisers stated that the objective of the Travelling Book Fair is to strengthen reading habits and promote literary culture in the hill districts and other underserved regions of the Northeast. By taking the fair to different towns and educational institutions, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap in access to books outside major urban centres.

The opening day witnessed enthusiastic participation local residents, who were seen browsing through the stalls and engaging with the wide range of titles on display. Many visitors welcomed the initiative, stating that such events provide a valuable opportunity to access quality books at affordable prices.

The organisers expressed hope that the fair would receive continued support from the local community and contribute positively to education and learning in the district.
