Ukhrul Police Destroy 140 Acres of Illegal Poppy Cultivation in P-II Drive

UKHRUL: Ukhrul Police, coordinated teams comprising district police, central security forces and line departments carried out operations at separate sites under the district.

Per Ukhrul Police, the first operation at LM Block, a combined team of the District Police, 6 Manipur Rifles, Forest Department and the 18 Assam Rifles destroyed approximately 55 acres of poppy cultivation. During the operation, five huts reportedly used by poppy cultivators were also dismantled and burnt.

In a parallel operation conducted at the Yaolen Chepu and Lamlai Chingphei areas, another joint team consisting of the District Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Forest Department and the Narcotics Affairs and Border (NAB) unit destroyed around 85 acres of illegal poppy fields. Eleven huts used by cultivators were also demolished during the drive.

Police sources said that FIRs will be registered in connection with both operations as per legal provisions, and added that the poppy destruction drive will continue in the district until Saturday, December 20, 2025.
