AGARTALA: Tripura is set to get a government Ayurvedic medical college after the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine formally accepted the state’s application on June 18, opening the path for the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania in Udaipur Sub-division, with 60 BAMS seats from the academic session 2026-27.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha announced the development on his official social media handle. “I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026-27,” he wrote.

The acceptance letter was addressed to the Secretary of Tripura’s Health and Family Welfare Department. The application had been submitted on December 30, 2025 by Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao, IAS, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, seeking permission under section 29 of the NCISM Act 2020.
Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “visionary leadership and unwavering support in strengthening healthcare and medical education across the country.”
“This landmark achievement will significantly enhance Ayurvedic education, promote traditional systems of medicine, and create new opportunities for aspiring students in Tripura while improving healthcare services for our people,” he added.
