Agartala: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has strongly condemned opposition parties for allegedly politicizing the unnatural death of a young woman at Santiniketan Medical College hostel.
Addressing the media on Wednesday at BJP Pradesh Karyalaya here in Agartala, state BJP chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty assured that the police are conducting an independent probe without government interference and confirmed that one arrest has already been made in connection with the June 11 incident.
Following the death of Manisha Das, a four-member BJP delegation visited her bereaved family. According to Chakraborty, the victim’s father expressed complete faith in the steps taken by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
“The family has full faith in the Chief Minister and his administration, they are confident that a thorough investigation will reveal the truth,” Chakraborty said.
He added that a judicial magistrate’s inquiry has been initiated, and forensic tests are currently underway. “If anyone is found guilty, they will not be spared from the law,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the BJP severely criticized the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and Congress spokesperson for exploiting the tragedy. “We condemn the mentality of creating political confusion over a tragic death and trying to gain political mileage from a tragic incident is not healthy politics,” he said.

However, responding to Congress allegations that the case might disappear into police files like past incidents, Chakraborty dismissed the claims. “The police have full liberty to conduct independent inquiries to find out what happened and here is no government interference in investigations since we took office,” he asserted.
During the press conference, the spokesperson also addressed the upcoming Supreme Court mandated Village Committee elections. He confirmed that the BJP is fully prepared, noting that alliance discussions will take place as the dates approach.
Finally, regarding a planned highway and railway blockade scheduled for June 24 by a tribal organization, Chakraborty appealed to the public to reject such disruptions.
“The people of the state want to move away from the politics of road blockades that paralyze public life and stall development,” he said. He emphasized that the current administration takes positive steps for logical demands, adding that genuine issues can be resolved without stalling public life.
