Shillong: Three persons died on the spot after a truck loaded with buffaloes fell from a cliff in a village in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya last Saturday night, a delayed report said today.
The incident took place when on reaching a turning at Khoh-yiar near Mawkhap junction, NH-40, the gear got jammed as a result of which the truck slipped backwards and fell into a deep precipice, police said.

Before the incident, the truck driven by one Yomiki Kharshandi loaded with 12 buffaloes, proceeding from Pynursla towards Laitlyngkot broke down at Langkyrdem and was repaired.
The police rushed to the spot where it was learnt that one occupant of the said vehicle identified as Bansiew Khongklian from Phlangshlain had managed to climb up, and driver Yomiki Kharshandi was also found alive.

Three others – Kyndaiborlang Kurbah from Kseh Mawnai, Banpeitlang Marbaniang from Nongshken Mawdang and Welbokstar Sohlang from Kseh Mawnai were found dead on the spot.
A UD case has been registered with the Pynursla police station.
