AIZAWL, SEP 11 (SHABD): Heavy rainfall yesterday evening and last night triggered landslides, building collapses and flash floods across various parts of Mizoram, claiming two lives in two separate incidents.
In Lawngtlai College Veng, at around 5:00 PM yesterday, six-year-old Ruby Lalrinsiami and her friend, Alicya Remruatkimi, were on their way to a nearby neighbourhood store to buy some items. When Ruby stepped into a roadside drain carrying a rapidly flowing torrent of floodwater, the current swept her away.
Her friend attempted to chase after her but could not keep up due to the force of the water. Ruby’s father, Pu Lalbawlliana, along with a companion, made desperate efforts to search for her and later recovered her body from a pool of accumulated water beneath a cliff.

Meanwhile, in Zalenveng, Vairengte, in Kolasib district, heavy downpours triggered a landslide last night that swept away two residential houses. The affected homes were occupied by the families of Pu Ngamlalliana and Pu Lalhlimthanga.
Thirteen-year-old Zodinliana, son of Lalramneiha, was trapped beneath the collapsed structure and died. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
