Two more COVID-19 related fatalities were recorded in Meghalaya on Wednesday in Meghalaya. Although these fatalities occurred last month they were only communicated to the Health Department by the hospital on Wednesday.
One of the deceased persons from Jowai in West Jaiñtia Hills was found to be Covid-positive on November 3 and was admitted to NEIGRIHMS in Shillong on November 8. He passed away on November 28. Cause of death was refractory septic shock with Covid-19 pneumonia, coronary artery disease and hypothyroidism.
The second person was from Tripura, who was admitted to NEIGRIHMS on November 19, tested positive the same day and passed away on November 28. Cause of death was Type 1 respiratory failure with multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, Covid pneumonia, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and diabetes.
Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities linked to the disease now stands at 114, with 95 in East Khasi Hills alone. The district’s fatality rate is now up to 1.32 percent, while the statewide fatality rate is 0.95 percent.
Meanwhile, there were 79 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Meghalaya, along with 60 recoveries on Wednesday.
Of the new cases, 53 are in East Khasi Hills, 23 in West Garo Hills and one each in East Jaiñtia Hills, West Jaiñtia Hills and Ri-Bhoi.
In East Khasi Hills four were health workers and there were several from various clusters, including Laban (five), Nongrim Hills (three), Madanrting (three) and Malki (two). Nine returnees also tested positive.
Of the recoveries 40 were reported in East Khasi Hills, eight in West Garo Hills, five in South Garo Hills, three in South West Garo Hills, two in West Khasi Hills and one each in East Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi.
In all, Meghalaya has had 11,954 Covid-19 cases, of which 686 are active, 11,154 have recovered and 114 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 93.31 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,400 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
