Ukhrul: AC Rinsing, a filmmaker from Ringui Village in Ukhrul District, has been selected to represent Manipur at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea. The prestigious festival, running from October 2 to 11, will feature Rinsing’s film SAMKHOK, which has been nominated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for its depiction of Tāngkhul Naga culture and traditions.
SAMKHOK tells the story of a clan chief’s family as they prepare for the Maran Kasā, a traditional Feast of Merit, while navigating the chief’s journey of vengeance following the tragic death of his son. The film dives deep into Tāngkhul Naga heritage, exploring the intricate familial relationships, rituals, and the profound connection between humanity and nature. It presents a poignant narrative, encapsulating love, loss, and the cultural identity of the Tāngkhul Nagas before the advent of Christianity.
